Another poorly written article, journalism is a dying art.
Can anyone determine if we're going to have to pay to launch now at CK?

2020 just keeps delivering the sweet stuff.

It looks like we will have to start paying after the 1st. This will make a lot of dorymen and kayakers happy.... Reading a little farther into the article it specifically mentions the launch at Cape Kiwanda "Some of the sites have not charged day use fees in the past, such as Cape Kiwanda day use area, Hungry Harbor boat launch at Cape Kiwanda and the Pacific City Turnaround."

I actually think this is a good idea as PC has become so crowded in recent years.

Does anyone know if/how this relates to kayak fisherman being able to park and launch on the beach? Does it just allow permit holders to park in the lot? Or is that still tbd?

Not sure, but my best guess is that anyone who drives over the ramp will need to pay the day use fee, or have the annual pass

"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

I read through that article and could not decipher if this is per car, per vessel, or per person?  It would also be nice to know if these annual permits are transferable in any way?

In the FAQ, it clearly wasn't frequent enough to make the list, but they list Tillamook County Parks and Pacific City Parking Management facilities as where you can purchase a day pass.

Now, this may be all fine and dandy for locals, but say I want to come down and launch off Cape Kiwanda at 630am on a Sunday morning.  What are the odds of anything being open early enough to get my daily use permit prior to launch, or will these be point of use machines?

If not, my options are to probably going to be something like this.  Come down the day before to purchase a day pass for the next day and either find a place to camp or go back home for the night.  Or, I am going to have to purchasee an annual pass where I may or may not fine myself in Tillamook more than once or twice the whole year.  An online daily pass purchase option would be nice.

The website says to call them to buy it and they’ll mail it to you.  The campground reservation system online is easy to use, I would imagine that the option to purchase day use permits will get added soon enough.

I read somewhere that the county had already purchased a number of point of purchase machines for use in PC.  The commissioners are at least a bit in tune with what fisherman need in terms of access and convenience.

The $55 is expensive, but it does get you unlimited access to all the ramps in the county in addition to PC; crabbing at netarts, salmon fishing the 101 ramp in Nehalem, Memaloose, and many others.  Buying the pass will make you go fishing more in Tillamook county to get your money’s worth!  You can use the pass between 2 vehicles, double sided just have to choose which 2 vehicles and write the plate numbers.

At all the smaller launches, Lake Lytle and the drift boat launch lots they have a strongbox and envelopes. I’m assuming they’ll throw one up at PC if they don’t get point of sale machines up first. Barview jetty park window at the RV park is where I get mine. But I’m loco!!
