This is my usual work out! There is usually a group of shore fisherman trying to hook up with cutthroat trout(great group). To paddle across to Possession you would be wise to work the tides and maybe even a chute for those afternoon westerly winds. Sometimes a fast incoming tide can push you too far South (experience). The channel can have swirly currents too.
I have had the same luck as Zee with nothing big showing until you go too deep. Whoa! the size of those dogfish can really make for a short bit of fun.

This wasn't my first time either.. I've had some challenging days out there in the past as well... ;D

Surprised we've never seen each other out there. Where you located? We should get out there some time.

Located in Ballard and work in Everett. I usually drop by Picnic Point on my way home from work for a few hours when we have more daylight.
I usually cross to Possession on the weekends as I don't have that kind of time on the week nights. Pics attached

Picnic Point has been a good spot and I'll bet it's better in the early hours as the sun isn't beating down on the water in the morning.

Oh Man! I really am starting to get that bug now. I hear that the areas north of the Mukilteo ferry are doing fair for blackmouth. Last I read from the WDFG was area 8-1 and 8-2 are cooling off and area 7 in the san juans seems to be doing well.
Usually by the time the WDFG gets the word out the conditions have changed so I'm holding out for area 8-2 being the hot spot real soon.

Have you ever thought about crossing from Golden Gardens to Jefferson Head? Seems like a long but doable paddle. Lots of heavy traffic and big ships traveling through in the afternoons so it wouldn't be without some excitement.

Kurt

Those that plan the battle rarely battle the plan, unless it involves fishing!

Yep, distance-wise very doable. Richmond Beach is right down the street from me so Jefferson Head is always tempting me. The traffic on that part of the sound is pretty nuts though so keeps me at bay. I've been planning on doing it just to do it. If you wanna give it a shot let me know. It won't seem so bad if there's two of us. ;D
