Hello All,

I am headed to Florence to camp with family and am bringing my two kayaks for my wife and I.  I have never fished the area and am looking for a little bit of guidance on launch and general tactics.  Also interested if there is crabbing opportunities.  I have searched some older reports online but not a lot of details on launches or recent reports.

Thanks in advance for the help!

The handful of times I've fished from kayak on the Siuslaw, I launched at Cushman (a bit east of Florence, up Hwy 126). There's a nice ledge near a large maple tree maybe 50 yards upstream of the boat ramp that produced well for me on incoming tides, trolling against the tide. You can also ride the tide upstream a bit to the Dairy Hole, where Duncan Slough comes into the main stem. Cut plug herring behind a triangle flasher was productive, but that was also before I got on the skateboard+spinner bandwagon, which is hard to beat in the early season.

When?  There's a cool free kayak/canoe launch below the 101 bridge called "Exploding Whale Park", gives access to good crabbing and salmon trolling stretch (101 bridge down to mouth).
