I'll see your 'National Dog Day' fun and raise it with a 'butterball' ocean chinook out of Sunset Bay about a mile off shore. (a double 'from a kayak together' bucket list fish for Pepper and I: adult chinook salmon and ocean salmon).

Above- Pepper's head is just below my left elbow and the foam net grip, she is totally bored by the chaos of fighting a fish like this, she doesn't move at all.

34", 21.5" girth, 20#, tag code for Sunset Bay: 20.

Hell yeah, great fish Roger! Can't say I see many salmon reports come out of Sunset Bay.

A handful of us hit up Fogarty yesterday. No swell at all, though the south wind put up a little chop. Had to push through an impenetrable wall of jellies at the 100 ft contour before they thinned out around the 150 ft mark. Out at the 180-190 ft contour, we marked several bait balls. Despite the favorable conditions, the fishing wasn't as lights-out as I was expecting. Fish were kinda scattered around. Still, I boated five coho, four of which were clipped. Kept the two biggest ones. Blue Hawaiian Brad's Cut Plug, 10 oz weight, 30 ft on the line counter worked for me.

On the way back in, we hit the inside reef for some rockfish. Easy peasy rockfishing. Landed a surprising number of blues and deacons, to the point where they outnumbered the blacks. They were a welcome surprise, as blues/deacons are two of my favorite RF for the table.

That'll about wrap up the coho select season for me. Helluva season, best I've experienced since I started fishing it in 2017. Looking forward to the non-select season next month!

Nice fish guys!  Roger, that’s a real beauty and had to feel amazing to get it in the net.

The stars finally aligned for a Halloween ocean chinook at Pacific City this year.  Found a nice 13lb hen in close with a lot of bait around.  Pretty immature eggs, wonder where this hatchery fish was headed.  It was a pretty good season all in all.

Very nice Onefish, way to close out the ocean season! Maybe that fish was headed for Elk or Chetco? Those systems get some late-returning fall fish.

Agreed, it was a helluva season for ocean salmon. Coho was insanely good, but Chinook was also great with an incredible grade! Never saw so many high 20-low 30 pounders landed by kayaks as I did this year. Crossing my fingers for a repeat season in 2022!
