I am eagerly watching the  forecast and hoping the winds hold off for this next Wednesday out of Depoe Bay or Fogarty.
(Sorry, this may get a little long)
Some of you on here know that I work for U.S. Department of Interior's, Bureau of Land Management. I have been there for 11 years. Well, this next Thursday is my last day working for  them. I have taken a new job with a different  Federal agency. I will essentially be on probation again  and won't  be able to randomly call in sick for desperately needed salt water therapy.
So I figure that this is a great opportunity. I have only been able to get  out on the ocean once this year and the jitters and shakes are getting pretty  bad from the withdrawal side effects. (JK) (kind of)

So... if the forecast holds I will probably be  looking at  around a 6 am launch as it is a long drive over. I did notice that the new forecast as of this morning  shows a little extra wind starting around noon which might get me to do a Depoe Bay launch as it is easier to make a short day with quick limits possible. I much prefer Fogarty for the quality  of fish, but it is a long paddle to my favorite  areas.

OK, I am done rambling  for now.

Anyone else interested in fishing Wednesday?

Hey that's the perks of being a fed right, we get to use our leave when we want to!  I could potentially swing a day off then if the conditions are right...and workload dies down.

You guys on for tomorrow?
I’m thinking of N Fogarty launch at 6am.  Looking for chinook #1 by 9am.

Today I learned about secondary and tertiary swell … and that all of them must be considered. MSW showed 2’ @ 16s primary from SW, 1.5’ @ 8s secondary from W, and 3’ @ 5s tertiary from NW.
From the beach, the SW swell was apparent … and seen as confirmation of the nice conditions.

Once beyond the reefs, I got 3-5’ @ 5s from the NW. it kicked my butt.   I quit early.  Now pondering wave theory over a cup of hot coffee.

'washing machine' conditions.  I get about 2 hours out in those, catch a nice lingcod, and barf.   ;D

You do need to understand this stuff.  You were out in a no-go day for most of us.  When you have two swells coming almost perpendicular to each other most folks will lose their breakfast - not me, but some people will - and you had three swells all coming in from different directions.  It was going to be a miserable day out there even if you didn't puke.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

It laid down quite a bit this afternoon. Might have been better to make an afternoon run vs the morning. Another thing with Depoe are the waves bouncing off the cliffs. It can make the conditions more of a bouncy-house the closer you are to the shore. Get away from the cliffs, and it's not as bad.

I know of at least one Chinook landed by a kayaker out there today. Wish I could've been there!
