Kayak fishing haiku

Sometimes as I float around in my kayak, fishing and looking at the scenery, I compose haiku poems.  On a recent day of fishing when the mountains were covered by brightly colored trees and bushes, my dry suit neck gasket tore, fortunately as I was taking off the dry suit rather than as I was putting it on. That inspired the following haiku poem.

Fall leaves drop from trees
My dry suit neck gasket tore
All things end with death

Does anybody else have any kayak-fishing-inspired poetry?

I came up with a haiku when I was coho fishing this fall -- something to the effect of

Everyone is catching fish
Everyone but me
I don't like kayak trolling

But then I realized that a haiku is 5-7-5, not 7-5-7.

It may not satisfy the haiku rules, but it's still sincerely felt poetry.  Here's one for you, BogueYaker:

I don't count very well,
So I can't write haiku poems.
That's rather sad.

when I am trolling for salmon, I keep this poem running through my head on a loop:

set the hook with my feet
set the hook with my feet
catching salmon such a treat
when I set the hook with my feet....

It's not a haiku, nor were any kayaks involved in its making, but hopefully this poem I created whilst meditating near a river, many years ago, shall suffice.

To see a clear stream flowing,
Like a current of pure knowing,
Infinite and restless energy,
Watch it flow, fluid and free.

This thread is magical....

Oh salmon salmon.
Bite my superbait today.

Well, not haiku either but, in the past, if it took more than 15 seconds to land a fish, I would start mentally narrating as if I were writing an article about the battle in Salmon, Trout, Steelheader. I'd be sure to incorporate clichés such as "thumb burning run" "violent head shakes", "chrome", "tailwalking", etc.

Now write it all out when you tell the story here, add a bit of drama - real or imagined - and an aside about dogs never hurts...

How do you feel about limericks?

I've always enjoyed haiku. You can still paint a picture or evoke emotion with 17 syllables.  I like the efficiency of it, picking quality words over quantity.  Haiku should be more popular in social media. It fits the modern attention span better than a tldr.

Being of Irish descent, I quite enjoy a good limerick.

There once was a lingcod in a bucket,
Who thought "If I'm meant to be dinner, I say xxxx it
With a swish of his tail
He leapt over the rail
Shouting "You and your bucket can suck it!"
