I haven't heard any kayak reports, but some boats out of Newport and Depoe seemed to do OK. Water's warming up this evening, so it could be a different ballgame tomorrow. I'm going to try Depoe bright n early, I was told the line of boats waiting to launch reached the highway this morning.

Launching Tandem Island with a buddy from PC tomorrow.   Trying to get there around 6 or so.  Going to take us a minute to get it off the trailer and figure out how to get it to the ocean….

Beautiful ocean, but the water is cold.

Yup! Nice day, nice ocean. Trolled out to 190’ and then to the reef at GP. No salmon love. Saw one kayak land one at 135’.  One small Ling, tossed another small one back. Trolled back to DB and picked up 3 nice big blacks on my salmon gear. Got me excited for a minute  :)

I trolled out to 195 ft just to see zero sign and frigid cold water, so I angled NE up to the Government Point reef to fish for bottom dwellers. The lingcod bite was pretty good, as it often is when the water is cold. Harvested 34 and 32 inch lings. The rockfish bite was hit and miss: some schools wouldn't bite at all, others would only produce a few fish before shutting off, and then we finally found one where they were real grabby. The quality of the rockfish was impressive as well, including a 22" black and a whopper 23" copper, which may be my PB copper. I kept the black, released the copper.

Later in the morning, I loaned my other 1 oz P-Line Laser Minnow jigging spoon to my friend TJ so he could get some rockfish, since he wasn't having success on shrimp flies or swimbaits while I was crushing em on the Laser Minnow. First drop, he hooks up on a hot 8 lb hatchery coho, of all things. We trolled around the area for another hour hoping we'd find more, but no dice. Swell picked up to about 4 ft around noon, then the wind kicked up right as we were transiting The Hole at 1230.

Heard of good salmon reports from the boats and charters today, but they must've been far south of the harbor because we hardly saw anyone salmon trolling for miles around.

Both lings had flatfish in their stomachs. Butter sole and sand sole in one, and I think an English sole in the other. Pretty neat.

We launched the TI to a flat ocean yesterday at PC. Unfortunately, it was very slow for us, and seemed like the nearshore dory fleet was seeing the same thing.  Only ended up with 5 rockfish between the two of us. Released two baby lings and had a few big-ish feeling bites come off.  Half ass trolled for salmon first thing but didnt give it much heart.  Was a beautiful day out there until the wind came up around noon.

Launching the TI from the beach was interesting, not quite as hard as I was expecting.  Landing was more “fun” but still not too bad since the surf was mellow still

There were three of us that launched on Saturday at PC. Trolled for salmon to 130 FOW with no bite. The water was 46 degrees; I figured it would be too cold for coho. My buddy proceeded further to a gathering of boats out on the horizon, and I reluctantly followed him with another friend. At around 170 FOW as we got close to the boats, we saw nets flying. I stopped to check my gear and as I was reeling in my gear, a decent hatchery coho decided to hook himself :-) There was a good action for about an hour for most boats. The water temperature raised to 49 degrees. After the bite slowed down, we decided to troll back knowing that afternoon wind will pick up. Shortly I encountered something weird, it looked like a dead baby seal in the water but as I got closer, it was actually a medium sized dog :-( Curious if it fell off the boat unnoticed or it was deposited by a river. On the way back to the rock my gear was lowered to 14ft when I got an unexpected bite and fish started peeling the line. By the time I dialed in my drag, half of the reel was unwound. After a long fight, I brought in a nice chinook. Definitely did not expected that. By the time we got to the rock, there were considerable swells. I quickly got my limit of rockfish with no lingcod bite and proceeded to the shore. Landing was uneventful. Overall, it was a nice day. This was a second outing where we saw a whale very close to us.

I saw a post on the pacific city facebook group about the dog. A boat took the collar off it and contacted the owners. They were hoping to recover the dog's body as it sounds like it did get washed out to sea.

Thanks for the detailed report!
