With a good looking day coming up this weekend, I'm curious if anyone has looked to see if the Fogarty launch conditions have improved at all.

Prefer to go out of there as opposed to dealing with the Depoe launch on a weekend (even a winter one)

I think I may end up being the 2026 Fogarty guinea pig.  Conditons look pretty good and good high tide will help, just need to call the day at 1400 or so to make sure we have some extra water.

parking at Depoe just annoys me and with the first nice day of the year on a weekend, I suspect there will be a lot of rabid fisherman waiting to launch.  Fogarty is nice to avoid that plus we get a little bonus workout on the way out

For sure let us know what Fogarty is like. It's amazing how much it can change from year to year. I haven't had any super bad experiences at Depoe, but always more people there than Fogarty. I'm hoping to get in better shape this year, Fogarty could be quite the workout for me, Depoe is a lot less effort.I also found some really productive spots south of Depoe last year, but my biggest lings ever are still from North of Fogarty.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Do you mind another to tag along?  I was originally planning for PC on Saturday but the wind forecast continues to get worse there compared to further south...I haven't launched from Fogarty but have wanted to for some time.

I don't mind if that's where I end up.  Still eyeballing sunset bay too.

FYI if you're not aware.  Fogarty had a change in both last year that made it pretty unusable for kayaks.  I was hoping someone has looked at this year to see if any of the big winter tides or storms have cleared it out any.  If we plan Fogarty be prepared to move to Depoe if launch conditions aren't right

I'll decide sometime tomorrow which direction to go.

I will be going Saturday as well to Depoe area. Not sure on where to launch. I will be bringing 2 1st timers with me so thinking I should be nice and break them in softly at Depoe. I would much rather do Fogarty, but I would feel bad if they got swamped on their 1st time yaking the salt.

Good luck down south. I think I will hit PC in the morning instead.  It didn't look that bad on the webcam this morning which was forecast to be windier than tomorrow.  Saw at least one kayaker out there and some dory boats.  I'll likely be launching around 7:30 or 8 if anyone else is heading that way.

I stopped by Fogarty this afternoon to check it out. It's about the same or even worse than last year. Very sanded-in. Buoys were reading 3.6-3.9 ft while I was there, and it was low tide. There were some windows to get in and out, but also an occasional standing wave coming across the channel. If the swell drops below 3 ft tomorrow, coupled with the high tide, I think it's doable. But anything bigger than that, let alone on a low tide, is dicey at best.

I'll be launching out of Depoe tomorrow. Good luck all!

That is a bummer indeed! Maybe will still get some big winter weather to clean it out.

I sure hope so. Depoe is so damn crowded nowadays. Parking is almost nil unless you have a trailer.

Attached picture is from August, 2023. For reference, the sand now completely covers all the areas in the water you can see kelp. It's ironic: right after Fogarty was designated as a Marine Conservation Area for its rocky habitat, now there are no rocks  ::) .
