We'll be taking the dogs to Neskowin Sunday through Wednesday. Although the forecast only goes to Saturday so far, it looks like it'll be a wet week next week. Let's hope the ocean and winds calm enough for a day on the salt.

If not, a steelhead float or a couple of trout/bass trips on coastal lakes will be in order. I looked at banking it under the 101 bridge on the Salmon. It's doable but boring.  :(  Maybe Hebo Lake, Barview jetty, ???

Hey PP, other ideas?

Jay,

Paddle across from the boat ramp on the salmon with your wife and hike over the spit to the ocean.  Dawn is beautiful over there.

I could be wrong but this time of year there is not much happening in the lower salmon for steelhead. Ditto what spot said, also the hike to the top of cascade head is nice.  I will be doing some surf perch fishing if the weather cooperates.  Looking a the long range sat images I would be surprised if we get a window for the salt, maybe later in the week but who knows. I plan to do some floats on the wilson/trask for steelhead if the water levels allow. If not I will be banking it higher up in the systems. Tillamook jetty can produce lings and bottomfish but I don't fish when it rains as the rocks are wet and slicker than snot.  Also taking the PB so I can set my big pots for bugs in Netarts all week, if all else fails you would be welcome to drive up for a day of PB crabbing and clamming.

Those all sound like possibilities. I've never fished from a jetty so I might try that if it's not too ugly out there. I'll bring my fly rod for fishing the upper Wilson. I haven't fished for steelhead with gear before. I've just spent the money on it... ??? My mother-in-law will be there with us to watch the dogs so maybe a PB trip could be arranged. I can't remember the last time I was on one.

Paddling across the Salmon is a good idea. We've spent a number of days and nights at Camp Westwind with a class we were teaching. It is an incredible area.

Anyone know of fishing in Neskowin Creek? The regs say it's open for clipped steelhead through March. I wonder if there are any strays wandering about?

With a marine forecast like this one, I doubt I'll be getting the kayak salty. Looks like rivers, bays or jettys are the ticket for the week on the coast. Suggestions? Company?
