I have GOT to get out in the next day or two to test my weather mettle. I'm planning to at least go around in circles under Hawthorne Bridge and I need some bait.

Anybody willing to give up a local (PDX) source of some clear eyed, green label herring?

Thanks!

Wali

BTW: all are welcome to join me.

Wali,

Are you heading out Thursday or Friday?  I'm game for some circles on Friday.....

Back to the main questions, I do not know where to find good bait but I'm pretty close to Joes in Tigard so I'll check in the morning.

Yes!

Tomorrow morning and possibly again tomorrow afternoon.
Friday? What time is good for you? ;D

I got some green label anchovies from Lake O Joe's and some frosty, white eyed, green label herring at Fred Meyer's. I think I got a little carried away. ::)

The guy at Joe's said bait comes in tomorrow at noon.

The bait that has been putting a few fish in the box on the Columbia for a friend of mine are fresh jigged Newport herring.  Not convenient, but effective..

Wish I could join you guys  :'(.  I'll "holla atcha" on my lunchtime walk over the Hawthorne.  Keep the invitations coming because I feel the need for fish.

Update:  Brrrrrr.  Didn't see you but if you were out this morning...goodonya.

I picked up some decent looking green label herring at Joes a week or so ago, Puget Sound stuff.  Oddly, the "flash frozen" vacuum sealed had milky eyes and is a little dull, while the normal old plastic wrapped stuff was brighter.

I read somewhere that white eyes are normal for "flash frozen" herring.  Whether that is true or not is another matter.

What a great day here in Portland.  Took my standard walk at lunch and saw a yellow yak below the Hawthorne bridge.  Sure enough it was Wali.  Sorry I missed the others who were there earlier.  Here are a couple of pics from the bridge.  I'll let you tell your fish story...all I'll say is he wasn't skunked...sort of.

Hey Wali (or anyone else),
I'll be getting off of work early tomorrow and have loaded everything in the car to go after some kings on the big W. I'll be hitting the water about 3pm. Either downtown from Hawthorne or Sellwood.

Recomendations? Care to join me?  I'm feeling the salmon mojo returning  :D
