I was impressed with Howard Mckim's modification on his OK Trident 15 "Rod Pod" and "Sonar Shield".  He replaced the factory installed buckles and straps with bungee cord.

Here is my version.
See my slide show "How to" at the link.

I did both the sonar shield and the rod pod bungee mods and they are great.  Once you are fishing it is quick into both areas.  I left the rod pod buckles and straps in place, but reversed one of the buckles and straps so they could be clipped together out of the way.  Also I am going to use the hardware, and buckles from the sonar shield to add a lengthwise rod pod lid strap.

Thanks for the idea!

After running the mod in the surf once, I put the straps back on and added a center strap (seen in yet another thread).  I too reversed one of the buckles so I can clip them out of the way.  Works great.
