Put in at 6:00am on Sat. at depoe bay, got onto the lings pretty quick right off of the kelp beds.  Five lings, two babys, 23" , 24", 25", one cabazon.  Kept the 23" and 25" for dinner.  First time I fished there, turned into a good morning.  This was the first time I ever caught a ling or cabazon.   ;D

Did you launch out of the harbor?

Sweet!  Way to go.  How far out did you have to go to get to the kelp beds?

Gotta love days like today!  Congratulations on the Ling and Cab!

I put in at the ramp and shot out under the bridge.  Head north about 75 yds. and your on the kelp.  Picked up the first lings there in about the first half hour useing 1 1/2 oz. head and whole squid that the wife picked up at the grocery store for me.  Paddled out off of the north head lands for a bit.  Stay away from that place, those swells are just too unpredictable.  I got smart and headed south by the bouey across the mouth of the harbor, and back close to shore.  Several rows of kelp there that sit in 16 ft. of water and drops back to 30 to 40 in several yards.  Easy spot to set up a drift from north to south and jig the drop.  I'll fish there again for sure, far better luck than I deserve.  I was supprised I never hooked into a single rockfish though(i know lings are rockfish but I mean the blacks, vermillion, greenling types).  I know some of you have fished here befor any luck with the rockfish?

Haven't been able to kayak out of Depoe yet, but I have been wanting to for a while. Are you in a position to frequent that spot?

Let me know if you want some company next time you go. Like I said, I've been wanting to hit this spot for a while.

must have justed missed ya.  I was fishing from the rocks just on the otherside of the bridge.  Didn't have much time there (had spent the first part of the day at Boiler) but landed a good 22"-or-so cabezon...

Crazy, you're giving away my secrets!  Sat & Sun were great days for lings and cabs.  A friend took a 48" ling in the same area.

Give me a shout when you're coming this way (except Mondays).  I'm 10 minutes away.

I'll do that sniffer.  Sorry about stumbling on your secret, it is a nice spot though.

That's OK.  Not like I try to hide it.

Looks like my buddy Chris and I will yak it Saturday if he doesn't get too plastered the night before (his 40th), and if the wind an coasties open the bar.

If anyone wants to join us ping me.
