Stripers, guys?

From this week's ODFW Fishing report: "Striped bass fishing is good. A good place to fish for stripers is near the town of Coquille. The new minimum length limit on striped bass in freshwater is 24 inches."

Any of you coasties fishing for these bad boys? Where and how? Always have wanted to catch a striper.

I'm glad someone picked up on this. Stripers are insanely fun fishing. I've dealt with stripers in the surf zone and in lakes and there's a few ways to attack.

I have two rods w/ me striper fishing. One is for trolling and one is for casting. I'll troll looking for schools on the FF and I'll keep my eyes peeled for a boil (striper feeding frenzy). I'll be trolling either a RatlTrap, HairRaiser, Crocodile. Then if I see a boil developing I'll pull in my trolling line, haul butt to the boil and bust out the casting rod. Try kastmasters, Zoom Flukes, Crocodiles, RatlTraps etc. right through them. They'll hammer whatever you've thrown. Run and gun striper kayak fishing like this is way too fun!

BTW, I like to carry a pair of binoculars so if I think I see birds crashing bait and a boil developing that I can check and get an early jump on it.

Anyone know if stripers are caught anywhere off the north OR coast? If not, is there a northern most spot on the coast where they are? Sounds like a lot of fun!

Coos slough is probably the most far north. It used to be hot but got hammered. You will see them caught every now and then further north but I wouldn't call it a fishery. The Umpqua, Smith, and Coquille all have striper action. The southern OR coast does get them also and they come in the spring.
