and everyone thought I jumped into this headfirst!!!

haha!  i seem to have a tendency to do that with my hobbies.  it wasn't a spur of the moment thing though.  i've been looking into it for over a year now.  i spent a lot of time renting boats, (all SIK's unfortunately) talking with people, googling reading etc over the last year and decided it was something i really want to do.  so much so that i gave up my streetbike for it, and i love riding.  i've fished all my life, just never from a kayak.  right now i'm mostly a river rat.  getting away from combat fishing is very appealing to me, especially since this year is Pink year.  i found a Super Secret Squirrel spot in the salt last year where they are easy to catch by just flicking pink spoons.

Demonick, thanks for the info on the Scupper Pup.  i think i like the idea of the C-tug better.  has anyone ever had their scuppers crack from using a cart inserted into them?  how common is it?  i'll look into that rack too.  i like the sliding one but it's a bit pricy.  i have a week or two to pick one before the boat gets here.  a question on carrying a 'yak on a car; is it always necessary to have a bow and stern line on it?

Bigdood,  i'll be out there for most of the remainder of the summer trying to learn the area.  just lemme know when you're in town and we can hit it.  it's always fun to have someone to fish with.

thanks for the offer on the cart Allen.  that's a good deal.  does it break down small enough to fit into a bow hatch?

thanks again to everyone for their advice on everything.  when the boat gets here i'll probably have more questions about rigging and fishing.  i'll try not to be too annoying with the questions though.  thanks again!

Bobby

I don't know ... I've never done that.  I always just run them back to the car or just hide them on the beach.  But I suspect it does as the wheels come off and look small enough to fit.  But that also depends on your hatch size.

The Thule ratchets are so easy to use I can have both stern and bow lines on in about 1 minute.

You should consider how heavy the boat is and how you are going to load it solo.  My T13 is about 65 pounds nude and dry.  It is not so much a weight issue as an ungainly issue, but I can't just lift it onto the truck rack.  I need to lift the bow up and rest it on the rack then lift the stern and slide it forward.  My point is, before deciding on a carry rack, carefully think about how and where you are planning to load your boat.  Spending an extra $100 on the proper carry rack could save you hours of grief in the future.

Another t13 guy here. That rack is pretty slick, especially if you are already using a thule setup and it is on a car. The ability to slide the rack back over the trunk definitely makes it easier to load. I've seen it in action on surfanor's neon and it works pretty slick, but it does come with a fair bit of wind noise if you are going to keep it on all the time. I run mako saddles up front and hully rollers on the rear mounted on a nissan xterra and that setup works really well for me. I lift the bow up and pop it between the rollers, lift the stern up, push, and slide. Travelled well oveer 1000 miles with this setup without need bow and stern straps and it worked great. If you already have a cross bar setup from either yakima or thule, it should be a cheaper solution as well.

all good points.  the ride will weigh in about the same as the T13  i think it's advertised as 68 lbs.  i'm going to get the cheapie foam blocks that fit aero bars (that's what comes stock on the jeep) until i play with it a bit and decide which solution is going to be best.  i'll have to load it the same way as you, Demonick, and the sliding rack will make it so i don't have to rest it on the paint first so i like that idea.

checked the tracking and it'll be here this coming thursday so guess where i'll be next weekend!  i don't think i'll be fishing this time.  just want to paddle around and get used to the boat.  hopefully the weather will be somewhat decent.  going to try to score a shorty wetsuit off craigslist this week to start out with.  got my eye on this]http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?r=view&i=13137&aID=662A1&cID=FROOGLE_13137#details_box_holder]this for a dry suit sometime down the line.

hitting up Cabella's, Sportco and boater's world this weekend to see about rigging and fishing gear. i'll be after the incoming kings in no time!

thanks again to all for the advice.  can't wait until i can contribute some fishing reports.

  Hey Bobby,
I bought a Hobie Adventure a week and a half ago and I'm out almost everyday right now around Browns Point. I'll be on the look out for you in the next couple of weeks. I have a few sport bikes in my past too but for around here the yak can't be beat!    Chris

Chris,

looking forward to meeting you on the water soon.  i'll get another bike one of these days but for now it's just not a good fit.

i raided Cabella's this weekend and grabbed a couple Shimano TDR cheapie trolling rods and a couple of Cabella brand line counter reels and loaded them up with my favorite braid.  they'll be just fine dragging divers, mooching or jigging and of course trolling with a downrigger if i ever get one of those on the boat.  grabbed the 12v 8amp batter kit for the fishfinder too but they were out of the Cuda 350.  i should have figured, being Father's day and all.  i'll have to grab that somewhere else.  found a shorty wetsuit on sale at Sportco but it ended up being too small and i have to exchange it.

the boat is supposed to be here thursday so i hope to be ready to go by the upcoming weekend. gonna go try it out at Owen's beach on sunday.  hoping to get out fishing on July 19th.

almost ready to join the ranks of the kayak anglers!

i checked out the Lacey Wholesale Sports while i was down there too but they only had the Cuda 250's and they were the same price that Cabella's had the 350 for.  i picked up some hoochies and coho killers while i was there though.  i'm trying to find a place where i can buy the cuda 350 locally.  West Marine was a no-go, same for Sportco.  any ideas?  does Wal Mart carry them?  Boater's world in Tacoma is out of business now.
