Says it is 20NM west of the Columbia mouth.  That would be a hell of a long way to go in a Kayak.  When folks are talking about fishing B10/Buoy 10, are they implying they are going that far out?

Nope, you can see said buoy on this map (much farther east, it's R10 in the middle of the river)....

Oh, that is such a relief.  No I don't feel like I have to be some crazy marathon runner to go after fish.

Nah, but it's no place for the inexperienced.  Make sure you're ready for potentially sketchy waters/wind/powerboats.  And watch that tide....

Buoy Ten is a specific buoy location AND the general name for the Astoria estuary salmon fishery.  I would highly recommend that folks NOT head to the actually buoy location with their yaks.  It is a very treacherous location due to tides, wind, heavy current, and LOTs of power boats (who themselves get into serious trouble every year).  There are tons of spots to access the "buoy ten fishery" that are much safer and accessible to even the newest kayak fisherman.

I agree with that 100%... even if power boats weren't an issue around bouy 10, which they are (total combat fishing), the tidal, wind, and current forces that all colide at that location do not make it a friendly place to be in a non powered vessel, not to mention the giant cargo ships coming across the bar.

Good to know.  Not that I was planning anything stupid or nothing ::).

No, really, I know how dangerous the mouth of the Columbia is, was just wondering because I see all of the talk about the B10 fisheries etc.
