Took 3 days off for the upcoming negative tides and salmon season next week.  And as I was picking through magicseaweed it looked like Wednesday would be a great day to lose my Kayak Ocean Fishing virginity.  Anyone wanna head out with a couple of noobs?

Wednesday morning should be great at Cape Kiwanda.  Have had my eye on that surf report for a couple days - just have too much other stuff to deal with.  It should be an awsome morning on the ocean.  Good luck -

Should be a good time.  Now all i have to do is go home tonight install a fish finder, learn how to use my VHF, get all my gear around, load it all into my dodge neon, and somehow figure out how to squeeze all my crap in there and still fit my surfboard and skimboard in.... I'm gonna be up until 2am -_-

Might want to keep a close eye on the swell conditions while out there tomorrow. If that bump in the forecast comes a little early, one might find themself up a creek!

Been skimming and making my own woodies for about 10 years now.  I also have a couple of Victoria Foams in my arsenal(an ultra vac, and a polyvac epoxy carbon).  There isn't much in the way of skimming up here but i love it.  It's good for when the surfing sucks or now lol, if the fishing sucks.  That's pretty fricken cool you were involved in the industry back then!

Surfanor and I made it out that wednesday and it was really flat; perfect launch conditions for two groms.  Took a bit, but we finally caught some fish, undersize lings and one keeper black for me and a nice sampler of fish and a keeper ling for Surfanor.  I'm sure he'll have more on this subject.  But I know I'm hooked for sure, that was some of the most fun fishing I've ever had.

The trip was a blast.  I'll try to post pics tonight after work.  Needless to say I learned a lot.  Namely paddle leashes are not your friend when launching lol.  Kept catching my foot in the damn thing in the breakers when jumping on the yak. So that led to flipping the boat twice.

Of course it was all a controlled experiment ;-) to test the saltwater submersibility of my digital camera, vhf, handheld gps, and fishfinder.  Everything survived wonderfully with only about 8oz of water seeping in through a loosely bungeed rodpod.  Used a 5/4/3 wetsuit for the outing.  That turned out to be somewhat movement restrictive and warmer than I'd have liked.  On the plus side it almost matched the buoyancy of my pfd.  The next day I ordered a 2mm full leg short sleeve to replace it for kayaking.

Something else I've learned is I don't like my Surf to Summit GTS Expedition Seat for ocean fishing.  Well that's not entirely true I love the seat but on the choppy ocean the 2" of butt padding just feels like it makes me sit too high up.  So now I'm gonna try to sell that and order up a GTS Exp SB.  If anyone is interested in the Cadillac of kayak seats http://www.surftosummit.com/gts-expedition-molded-foam-kayak-seat-pack-p-1916.html?cPath=299_294 for a decent price let me know.  It's 2 months old and in perfect condition.

Coming in was a blast got a little sideways and found correcting a 14' kayak is not as easy as turning 9' surfboard lol. Great day, good fishing, pics coming tonight.
