Went up to Olallie today to escape the heat from the valley. Did really well on a wedding ring, too bad I only brought one. Finally caught a couple more on a rooster tail towards the end of the day and snapped a couple of pics. Also some underwater shots testing the canon d10 in Olallie's super clear water.

Great pics.  That is some clear water.  How much cooler was it up there?  I wanted to escape from the heat as well, but couldn't get away.

It was actually pretty nice... the water hasn't warmed up as much as say Timothy and it felt to be about high 70s, maybe low 80s with a nice breeze. When I dropped back down into Detroit and then finally Salem it felt like I was in a frying pan relatively speaking.

That's a nice fatty Jingram well done.

Glad to see Olallie is back in action, I went up last summer and all campgrounds were closed, got up there way late (11) so it was kinda too late to turn back, ended up staying and trying to fish the next day.  Nobody was pulling out anything people begain to drive around and ask if anyone had even a bite.  The overall conciseness was that the harsh winter had created a winter-kill.  Glad to see it's back in action, I love that lake going to definitely hit it up before the end of the summer now!

Yeah, Olallie wasn't stocked at all last year to my knowledge. I went up there canoeing a few times last year before I bought the yaks.  I think they typically suffer really high rates of winter kill up there in those lakes... just too damn cold and a lot of them really shallow.

I read this year that they stocked the first week of July. Talked to another yaker who said that he knocked them dead on a bobber and fly around the 4th. Guys on the bank weren't having any luck yesteday, but guys in boats were doing OK, although once I lost that wedding ring, it really slowed down.

I guess they sold the little resort up there and the new owner is fixing everything back up again. They had boats for rent again which was interesting to see.

Just curious, did you happen to measure that one?

No, sure didn't... Am not participating in AOTY this year and typically catch and release so don't care much. I will say that most of the fish I caught were about that size. Nice and fat for planters.

How do you like your D10?  Have been looking at it to replace my ancient camera.
Pros/Cons? Size?
Thanks
Elliot

I love the d10! I researched these things quite a bit before purchasing and had read horror story after horror story about the Olympus offerings and wanted more than 10ft of depth that the Fuji, Pentax, and Panisonic were offering. There weren't many reviews of the Canon when I purchased, but it was the camera I took down the John Day and it has seen some pretty good abuse so far. It is a funky looking camera and not nearly as thin and pocketable as say the Olympus offerings, but it is really well built. You read reviews of the Olympus offerings and it is story after story of them leaking. Plus, you are supposed to send them in to Olympus yearly to have the seals checked and replaced or "serviced". Nothing like that in the Canon verbage I was able to find at all.

Between the dpreview and newegg reviews and my own experiences, I would be hard pressed to recommend a different waterproof camera to any folks I know. Plus you can pick it up below msrp. Newegg has it onsale quite a bit at $299 and I have seen it offered as low as $269.

I'm also another satisfied user of the D10 in fact lol I was Jack's guinea pig.  Had it in lakes as well as the salt many times and it's been flawless.  Great camera and the accessory kit has some amazing tethering setups that work well with kayaks.
It's never too late to start procrastinating.
