Hooray!  Monday afternoon is the day I get my kayak.  Hopefully I have the storage for it worked out by then.

I plan on taking monday to figure out loading, unloading, attaching the turbofins, the sailing rudder, and maybe taking a jaunt down to Sellwood park to take it for a spin.

and then later in the week out to Hagg Lake for some cruising, re-entry drills, and maybe some bumping around for feeshes.

I hope to make it out to Netarts or Tillamook bay late next week.

like I said earlier.. holler if you want some company when you are at the coast.

I started ocean yak fishing in 5 steps: 1) outfitted the yak for what I thought I would need to be safe (immersion etc) and for fishing (KISS)  2) took the yak to netarts and paddled around for an afternoon and did a couple re-entrys 3) took an empty boat to the surf and spent an afternoon playing in the surf  building my confidence. 4) went for a short paddle offshore, did a re entry..  5) went fishing and haven't looked back.  Steps 2 and 3 took one weekend and  4 and 5 were the next weekend. If you feel confident at each step then move to the next if not don't move on until you do... If you pick your days (ocean conditions) the transition to fishing the salt does not have to be some long drawn out process.

BOAT!  Hooray!

Okay, now I gotta figure out where I want to take it first.  Gotta break it in.

I think you'll like your Outback.  I love mine.  Hope to see you on the water.

You get it wet at Hagg Lake for sure.  IMO the water temp is good enough to swim in at this point, so self recovery won't require much in the way of a dry top, waders, wetsuit or dry suit.

yeah, hagg is definitely warm (although the USGS site says differently).  i took my prone paddleboard out there yesterday, and had no troubles trunking it.

Went out by Sellwood park Monday night, Hagg Lake until about 3pm on Tuesday, and up by Elk Rock Island on the Willy last night.  No re-entry drill quite yet - I have no desire to try them out in the Willy, and spent most of the time on Hagg just futzing around and seeing how the kayak handled.

Well, it's been a month since your last update. Have you been on the big pond yet?

I'm planning on getting a Yak identical to yours (including the moss green color), within the next month.
