Hey Bobby,  I'm in California this week but am planning on getting out a lot next week. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday evening we could meet up and fish? PM me and let me know.  Chris

sounds good!  i still don't have cold weather gear for the yak so if it's not all that nice i'll probably be fishing on the banks of the Puyallup but i'd much rather yak it if i can.  i'll see what i can do about a wetsuit between now and then so we can hit sound.

He guys were you out there?  I saw a red kayak out at the mouth but did not make it down that far.
well I finally landed my first kayak king!!
While traveling north to  Chambers creek about 1/2 mile from the ferry docks I started seeing fish jump about 300 yards offshore.  I made a hard right and explored the area a bit.  My first few drops into bait were fruitless.  I kept seeing them (3-4) jumping up on top.  I went down one size to a 3 1/2 oz green and white PW dart and started fishing  about 20-30 feet down in 125'.  I was jigging about 5-10' above the bait when WHAMO!  after about a 20 second sprint he was off.  A couple of paddle strokes latter I was back on them.  The next drop went about 15' down when it was nailed! I thought it was one of the seals at first but when the line went almost parallel to the water with no seal breaking the water I knew it was a King.
She made about 5 runs before getting her up. Total on 12 lb test 8-10 minute fight!   Once I verified she was good to keep, I netted her up and plopped her in the yak between my leg's .
I got a couple of pictures on the water from a nice old couple out fishing.  Once I realized I had left the ice chest at home I decided to give the fish away to a cool father/son combo on an old 14' skiff.  I got a few pictures out of the deal so I guess it was a good trade.

Lessons learned:
1. Bring Ice chest.
2. Fish bait balls associated with fish jumping near by.
3. Salmon will feed 5-10 feet above bait.
4. Don't forget to leash paddle (was too late once hooked up....It was annoying).
5. I didn't need to take my storage box when I only planned on fishing a couple of things (less is more)
6. I should have stayed in the area and tried for another fish while it was going off.
7. This place has HUGE potential during slack tide (a guy out there today said earlier it was "a really goofy tide today")  Maybe I'll research what was so "goofy" so I'll know to be there for it longer next time.

NICE WORK!! Great job figuring out the "goofy" conditions and getting the fish. And big karma on the giveaway. Let's slay 'em this weekend.

Yeah PW Dart for me too.  Almost idential conditions where I was.  It was about 100' deeper but bait...fish all in the same depths.  I thought where I was at was Sunnyside park.  turns out I was about 1/2 mile south of it >:(  I tried to catch up with you and hail you on 69...no luck. sorry man.    Saturday I'll be at Point defiance till about 3pm.  wanna meet there at 530(am)?

If Point Defiance isn't doing it's thing it's not that hard to pack up and hit up Chambers. Good plan B.

Nice Fishy!  I'd say you're ready for the 2010 AOTY.   ;D

thank for the invite but i don't think i'm going to be able to do the Pt Defiance thing this weekend.  i may be back out at chambers on Sunday though.  have to work on saturday and am hitting the banks of the Puyallup after that, around 4:30 to go pinky crazy.  and hopefully get kinged.  i have yet to get a king out of the Puy and it's goal of mine.  i live just a couple minutes away from there.  it's my "home" river and i know it pretty well and enjoy fishing there.  if i go sunday to Steilacoom, i'll let you know and see if you're up for it.
