I've been in the water a number of times on purpose and accidentally in my breathable waders and paddle (splash) top. Most of these times resulted in a small trickle of water down through the neck resulting in a slightly wet base layer. On a cold day, this ended my fishing time. All the other days I just kept fishing.

As Wali said, we're only talking about the outer layer of a system. No one piece of clothing is going to save you from stupid.

I second that. Went out Sunday on the columbia to test my new boat. I couldn't wait. Temp 34F (high) winds ENE 20mph sustained, gusts to 43mph. wind chill 8F

Wearing Gtex dry suit, IR immersion shirt, light fleece, heavy fleece, heavy fleece pants, heavy wool socks, wool/poly beanie, & Glacier gloves.

I got so freaking hot paddling into the wind that I stuck my ear in the water to cool off. Which was fine as long as I kept paddling hard. I stopped to eat a PB&J (kayak fuel) and took off my gloves.

My hands were stinging and useless by the time I scarffed my sandwhich. Sprinted all the way back to the car (7miles) and was just getting feeling in my hands when I got back.

This got me thinking about Zee's footwarmth post; I've learned when it's that freakin cold, NO clothing will keep you warm. The only solution I've found is to paddle harder. Don't let yourself get cold in the first place as it's so much harder to re-heat after getting cold than it is to stay warm.

OK, I really just wanted to post a pick of my new boat 8)

Purty boat!  Can I drill some holes in the stern for ya and plant a drift anchor pulley on it?  ;D

I'd paddle harder towards the banjos. I'm from Texas and to me, that sounds like a party!

I'd paddle my arse off away from the techno-rave/incessant drum beat crap I was privy to until 4 am on Cypress last July. >:(
