I am visiting for several weeks and brought my fishing kayak along and am fortunate to be staying on the waterfront near the marina at Shilshole . I am completely out of the loop and dont expect GPS #s and the like... but if someone can just give me an idea of whats going on now locally or general areas to fish I will do the rest  ;) (feelin' conceded today). My half-baked battle plan so far is to paddle paddle paddle till I find some structure between Meadow Point and West Point outside of the Shilshole Bay closure area. Probably stick with buzz bombs just to keep things simple but if someone will tell me Im doing it all wrong please do and give me a kick in the right direction. Thanks for your time and keep your lines wet~ Chris

Meadow point outside the closed area can be good for salmon.  Start there, look for bait balls.  If nothing going on for kings closer to shore, don't be afraid to work further out (weather dependent) for silvers, resident silvers right now, ocean run later in August.

I paddled out last night to Golden Gardens and found the bait anywhere from 60-140 ft and deeper but drifting in a kayak anything much past 120 with no drift bag is close to pointless IMO. definitely got some bumps on the sink and one on the retrieve but I only had about an hour of good light so thank you for the advice. Looking out the window now West Point has got several boats (fishing) right off the NW side of the point, so maybe today I'll check it out later.

West point seems fairly active with fishing boats. Be careful of the container ships cruising through the channel.
I'm thinking of trying West Point either Sunday (tomorrow) or Mid week.
Please let us know how it went.

Those that plan the battle rarely battle the plan, unless it involves fishing!

I went out of Shilshole Thursday evening.  The guy I went out with brought in a pink and I caught some crab.  Humboldt_13, are you still in the area?

I've put in at golden gardens a couple times in the last week - seen some humpies moving through but not in big numbers yet.  It'll heat up . . . any day now.

Hi,

Where is the best place to put in around Golden Gardens?  Do you use the Boat Ramp at Shilshole or do you launch off the Beach at Meadow Point?  I have usualy put in closer to the Locks but would like to paddle less and fish more.

Thanks,

Tomas

I put in a Shilshole typically after work.  There usually aren't too many people trying to launch at that time..  I've also launched from the beach without problems.  The biggest challenge down there is parking.  What times are you fishing?

Right there at the beach. Skip the launch fees and lines. That's why we paddle!

I'm with zee - put in right at the beach even if it means dragging the kayak a ways.

maybe someone knows - where exactly is the closed area?  I thought I knew but I've seen some guys fishing in close the the beach in an area that I thought was closed.

The closed area is more to the north. I've heard there's supposed to be a sign but haven't seen it myself.
