Hey guys, i'm a new kayak fisherman looking for a group of nice guys to go fishing with. I live in Southwest Washington, and my normal fishing spot is the Lewis River. I have only been out with the kayak a few times cause I didn't have anyone to go with. I am pretty much all set up and ready to go. It would be great to get together with a few guys who know what they're doing.

My setup:

Heritage Redfish 12'
25' Grapnel Anchor
Trolley System
Scotty Rod Holder
Flush mount holder

Redfish12 how far south are you? I am in Lacey, very much a newbie, and looking to connect with others, outfitting a Hobie Revolution.

I'm down here wedged between the bogs and the beach in Grayland. I have a Native Ultimate 12 that i've been fishing out of since June '08, and a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 that I just bought and am now outfitting for the salt.
I'm willing to travel up to the S Sound (area 13, W side!) and Hood Canal and the Strait, as well as head down to the lower Columbia tribs at times. But there's often plenty good 'nuff angling around my area to keep me local.

If any of you guys want to head out this way and fish sometime, shoot me a pm and I'll see if I can arrange my schedule to meet for some yak fishing, or offer up any recommendations.

I have some occasional regular fishing buddies that fish with me for salmon from my johnboat, but I have no yak fishing buddies locally. (My regular buddies are all lazy bastiges that want to come along if I do all the work/prep.).

I will be fishing mainly the Willapa River and in Willapa Bay through the 15th of this month. The wind and seas look to calm down after the 9th. We have strong gusty SW winds here today, with a 12 foot W swell on the ocean.

With this rain (rained hard here last night, and more showers forecast),  there will be plenty of salmon in the rivers. I'm sure the rivers up on the W side of the Olympic Peninsula got a surge of fresh fish with this rain, and the rain surely got the low-water spooky fish already in the rivers moving. I've been dying to head up there and hike/wade and fly fish for Cutthroat, Summer Steel, and Salmon, but the river levels have been too low.

But $*#@&%&! I am self-employed and must juggle work into this 5-ring circus, so I probably won't be Yak fishing again until later in the week, and that will be for salmon in the Willapa, as that is within the realm of my "local waters."

(KT, the swell is supposed to drop to only 4', and the wind looks like it will be backing off on the afternoon of the 9th. Your plans for then might be doable, but I'd rather head out on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday (13th, 14th, 15th) and fish the morning high tides. The ebb after the 4:30pm high on the 9th looks to be a strong one, and I'm not sure if I want to be paddling out there much after 6pm. I'd quit at 5:30 and head backto the ramp). (Friday and Saturday I might be trolling in the river from my john boat with my regular buddies. Note that I use the word "might.").  The tidal run-out from the morning high (during the mentioned upcoming period starting toward the end of this week) isn't bad, going to a higher low, and one might be able to fish through the tides.

After the 15th, I'll be scrambling to get things done that need to be done during drier weather, and trying to juggle in some fishing. This could be a wet Fall here on the beach. I don't always fish out of a boat, but my ears perk up when anyone suggests some yak fishing.
One more wrinkle in the sheets is that with this cooling weather, lake fishing for trout slurps it way back into the picture. ;)

I live right in the middle of Oregon and Washington, Vancouver, and I am willing to drive for some good fishing. I was thinking of going out on the columbia this weekend and throw some wobblers out, or maybe some kwikfish (will be my first time).

Looks like a decent window of relative calm on the afternoon of the 9th for the Bay, but the morning is supposed to be windy and rainy. Could be great conditions after the front moves past, though.

I'm trying to get my Tarpon readied for this Sunday, the 13th. It ain't ready yet because I have too many balls in the air. (Nope, not standing on my head, and I can juggle two anyway. :D)  Its been a 5-ring circus around here, lately, but I'm either getting it all under control or just ignoring stuff. I should have my rod-holders and compass installed by tonight.

There seems to be some interest in yak fishing for salmon in Willapa Bay. SilverKing contacted me about maybe fishing on the 13th. . So did Zee, but he mentioned later dates. Morning tides look good on 13th and 14th. Only problem with early morning fishing in the Bay is the fog. Often thick out there early, but burns off/blows away by mid-morning.
Any interest? I haven't fished there from a yak at all yet. Just a power boat. This would be a first for me, and I don't have a ff or gps for my Tarpon, yet. I'd have to guestimate the water depth based on prior fishing out there, or just "get in line" with all the other boats.  Hmmmmm :-\
Another possibility is trolling spinners in the river. Tides are good for that, too, and ya don't need a ff or gps, and fog is not a problem (just be visible to power boats). Gotta go to work now.
