What a day!  I went to Simpson's Reef yesterday and caught my limit of Blacks and Lings in a short time.  At first, the Ocean was kind of rough in the morning but then laid down so I could get next to the rocks.  In a very short time I had my limit and was heading home.

I definately need to bring a cooler of some sort so that I can put my fish on ice and then just scout other areas out to fish later.  It was so hot that I had to head home before my fish spoiled.

Last week when I was out there an older fisherman told me what jigs to buy and use.  So this time I had the jigs he had shown me and laid the hammer down.  I tell you what, those fish did not land themselves.  Every fish was a fight!  I did lose a few fish though.  Hobie's hands free fishing kayaks are the ticket.

I will post some pictures later when my wife gets home, since she knows how to do that.  I can't promise anything because I have Dial-up Internet.

Hey Coastal!

Good to hear someone did well this weekend. Things were pretty slow up above Newport.

I'd love to get a pic of the jigs you used. I'm still trying to figure out the ropes and any experiential advice would be appreciated.

On keeping fish cold... I bought an insulated plastic bag at New Seasons supermarket the other day.  It measures roughly 30" by 24", and expands (I think it would hold maybe 5 gallons of water).  I got it thinking that I could throw a couple of the sealed blue ice blocks in it and keep fish "cold enough".

Sweeet! Nice fishys and a great report!

On keeping you catch cool: The old school is a wet burlap sack. The water evaporating keeps your catch pretty fresh even with alot of sun. Just keep wetting it.

In the south, where there is no evaporation, most yak fisherman have been using insulated bags from costco or sam's club. They run about $10 and will hold 10lbs of ice for most of the day when the air is 90+ and the water is 91  :o  and you can stuff it inside the big hatch in the bow.

I have been thinking about the burlap sack idea.  I have not seen them around in quite some time.  Putting ice in a cold bag and then dropping it in the bow would work to.  Thanks for the ideas.

I cought the lings on an orange/white 4-5 inch sassy shad and the blacks on a red/white 2-3 inch sassy shad.

I don't put anything fishy in the hatch/hull.  It's hard to clean out the smell.   >:(  Been there, done that!
