Howdy all,

I was talking with one of the PBers today down in Wheeler who was admiring my yak - he said he had just picked up a pontoon boat and was going to use it during the Chum run up the Kilchis.

First, has anyone else fished the Kilchis?  Is it doable in a yak?
Second, Chum?  Anyone have experience with them?

I'm going to be out of town for the first two weeks in October.  If possible, I want to try my hand at this run.  looks like my best availability will be Midweek mid-October.  Anyone interested or have advice?

Don't bother... spend your time fishing for chinnook in the bay and tidewaters of the rivers.

The kilchis can get pretty skinny quickly. I'd definitely go down it with an experienced rower before you attempt it on your own.

As for chasing Chum...that run has been nearly wiped off the map. But if you're up for a weekend run to the OP, I'm in!

The Kilchis is doable but it's one of those rivers that can hand your ass to you if you're not carefull...  Like Bad lats said, this run has been nearly wiped out along with it's sister run on the Miami.

Too bad too. I remember 15+ fish days back in highschool....  Waking up the next morning with a cramp in my arm and shoulder.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Too bad to hear about your guy's chum run. They're ugly as all get out but a great fun fighting fish. Decent in the smoker as well. But if you have chinook... fo'gettaboutit.

If you really do want to get into some chum we still have a good run in the sound.
