Battery for fish finder

I bought a 12V battery at Wal-Mart earlier this summer to power my fish finder.  I bought a small enough battery that it can fit in my battery holder in my Ocean Kayak Trident 15.  The battery is shot and won't charge anymore.  Can someone recommend a different battery brand for me to buy that will actually last more than one season?  Below are pics of where I stow it and what size it is.  Thanks!  John

don't forget you have Outdoor Emporium, Warehouse Sports, and Sportco in the area of Seattle near the stadiums. they would probably have them too.

This looks like a wet cell motorcycle battery.  Those aren't really designed for being continually run down below 12v and then recharging.  
They usually are for just starting small motors, and then kept happy with the alternator/magneto charging it.  

Dis is what I have been sporting my Cuda 250 on all year.  The most I have been able to get from my 8Ah battery with fish finder, GPS, and back light on at all times is about 40 hours before it really needs a recharge.   Normally though I don't let it go more than 8 -10 hours of use before a recharge.




Oh, and it fits nicely in the T13 battery bag.

I agree with Insayn.  If that is a motorcycle battery, it isn't designed to be run down and recharged all the time.

John, like they've said, it's no wonder it died.. the links i gave you put you on to retailers who sell sealed batteries that are far better suited for dealing with the long draw times and frequent recharges that fish finder batteries are subjected to. and they cost about the same as the one that died on you.

please also look through our site using "fishfinder batteries" or a version of that for lots more information and a whole passle of great ideas on how to power your fish finder.

WR gave you a link for Batteries Plus, but they have several locations you can go to and see the batteries.  They will have an entire shelf of 12v batteries with different sizes and Ah.  That Cabela's battery is the same thing with a different name.  Find the best price and the size/Ah you want, and get that
