Just a note on a great resource for kayaks and fishing tackle in the San Fernando Valley. Was down visiting family last week and thought I'd check on any Kayak stores.
Cobra refered me to Taylor Tackle Shop. Thought this would be a little hole in the wall
store with one yak, 1/2 a paddle and zero knowledge. Well folks, meet Mike Taylor,
yakman extrodinaire. Surfer dude who lives the sport, has a great selection of Hobie's,
Cobra's, accessories and tons of all types of tackle for fresh or saltwater. The guy blew me away by offering to take us out on a Sunday to demo the Hobie Outback and the new Revolution. Fantastic!! Met him at Castaic Lower Lake and spent 1 1/2 hrs
trying out the yaks with my wife and got a wealth of info and an invite to go fishing with him in the Pacific kelp beds next time I'm down. If your down that way, look him up. Now,anybody have a few extra thousand for my wife and I to buy those Outbacks??!!@#$%^&*()_+

Thought this would be a little hole in the wall store with one yak, 1/2 a paddle and zero knowledge.

That's a perfect description of Dennis Spike's "store" in the valley in about '96 ('97?). Later that week he had the other half of the paddle, the shop was packed to the roof with boats and all of the collective knowledge of yak fishing that existed at the time. You were as likely as not to leave with a fishing date to go play in the kelp by Pt. Dume, but it was still, almost literally, a hole in the wall.
Ahhhh, thems were the days childrens.
