I was using the downrigger because I want to get used to dragging it through the water and the reports I saw before I went out said the fish were 30+ feet down.  It's also worth mentioning that I kept the downrigger out, even though I wasn't seeing any fish, because it forced me to paddle harder, and I was cold.   ;D

I hear ya on that! Holt (Holtfisher) and I were out paddling the S Sound between Johnson Pt and Tolmie St Pk on Tuesday afternoon, doing some exploring along the beaches in hopes of finding a searun cutthroat or two, and that NE breeze that kicked in was a bit chilly. I had to throw a windbreaker on over my new 5mm winter wetsuit, and even with all that rubber on, I never got too warm.
We got skunked, too.
Holt was toasty warm and comfortable in his new NRS dry suit. He got a top-of-the-line suit there. Very well constructed, and from "quiet" material, too. The price was a shocker though...around $900 he said. And then after you figure in the wicking underlayers and fleece and boots, you are well over a $G to suit up.
Oops, I think I just stole your thread and sneaked in a mini-report. Sorry 'bout that! :D

Found plenty of fish, but they weren't biting.  Found a few medium/large size fish in close to shore, tried a bluefox, brokenback rapala, worms, flashers and no flashers.  No hits.  Then I tried for some fish in deeper water.  About 200 yards off the shore, in 60 feet of water, I found tons of fish between 10-30 feet down.  Threw everything at them, and they wouldn't bite either.  Ran into a guy that says he fishes there all the time, and he had been trying all day too with no success.

Oh well.

I got skunked again today, BUT, I ran into a guy at the launch that had a 7 pound rainbow.  He was fly fishing from a bass boat.  He told me when and where to find them, so if I can, I'm going to kill a fish tomorrow.
