Too bad there are not that many kayak fisherman in the Gorge who participate in this forum.

:headbang: There are at least another 4 or 5.

Hey guys looks like I finally found some people to go out with. Yay!! I actually would like to join you for the springers run at drano. I tried trolling once at drano but the wind got too bad and I had to muscle my way the whole day... not very fun. I would be up for another go at it though. Just let me know when you guys decide to head out. Where else do ya'll fish? I tried the Lewis and parts of the Columbia but am still trying to learn the ways of yak fishing.

Should I mention they're expecting 30k fish at Drano? That's 3 times more than last year...

What's with the "anti-snagging rule will no longer be in effect" part of the Drano rule change?   Does this mean bankies get to snag springers here?

Looks like no Drano afterall

https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/erule.jsp?id=863

That's only a football field size area.  The rest of the lake is open and in my opinion it's more relaxing to spread out and fish in, than doing the circle jerk in the toilet bowl.

I don't know if you remember what it was like over the years there.  When I first started fishing there both from bank and boat, it was crowded at the wheel but most of the time everybody got along with a few exceptions.  Two or three years ago a few guides started to stall at the main hole in front of the bridge.  That would stop the flow and bunch all the boats up and force them closer to the bank. Others, not just the guides started doing the same thing.  Needless to say turned it into a cluster ....  Last year they put up the boundary and it did help quite a bit.  There where still some that pushed the limits (some received tickets) but most went along.  I would be nice to push the boundary a little further to the East and that would eliminate any contact with the bank guys.  Also let me say the bank guys were not total innocents.  There were some real A holes there as well.
The anti snag rule really didn't apply there since most of the fishing is done by trolling or casting from the bank. It's not like sitting in your boat and jigging like they do for Kings outside the White Salmon.

I grew up in Michigan, where snagging salmon was a fine (and disgusting) art.  Hate to her of it here....

Drano is always packed, plenty of bank fishermen out in front of the rivermouth. All kinds of fishing; trolling, bank, float tubes. Some troll, some fish with bobbers. When the fish aren't biting; everybody gets real surly; not fun at all.

I'm not attending anything there then.  I have a very short fuse for ignorant 'bubbas' and tend to get into trouble.

The locals here have long ago refined their corkie-and-yarn-with-long-leader flossing technique down to a fine art. I heard one young lad bragging that he could floss Coho stacked up in a pool right in front of a game warden watching him like a hawk, and not get pinned for snagging.

Lee, you don't want to confront those idiots flagrantly violating the fishing regs (as some of them get surly and will tell ya where to go, or even make threats), but if you can get a description, phone 'em in to the WDFW poaching hotline @ 1 (800) 477-6224.
I ignore the minor stuff, and may actually ask somebody if they know that they are violating the regs, just to help educate someone who's a newbie or who made a simple mistake. Like a dad with his kids who might be in violation of a special rule he missed reading about. I'd hate to see some poor guy who made an honest mistake get embarrassed by getting ticketed by a game warden in front of his kids.
However, if they get p.o.'d at me and tell me to f*#& off, I back off, and then maybe make the call.

Oh I'm not really worried about rule infractions.  People are generally pretty approachable with that kind of stuff.  What I do worry about is a bunch of drunk idiots on powerboats jockying for position on a tiny body of water.  It just doesn't sound fun at all, and fishing is supposed to be fun.

Knowing my low threshold for idiots, and the likelihood I'd encounter LOTS of them at a place like that, it's best to just not go there.

I've drove past this lake on my way back to PDX & have seen the circus atmosphere during the spring run. I may give it a go this year mid-week some time. Still a zoo then, but slightly less so. Do they sell day licenses in Washington? I'm assuming my Oregon license would not be valid.

I usually avoid any and all clusters like that place!  I wouldn't even try to go near there on weekends. Maybe mid-week, if the crowds aren't too bad.

Yep, you can even get your day WA license online and print it out for yourself.
https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/

And you're right about Drano, it's not considered part of the main Columbia River so it's not covered by the OR/WA agreement there.  You need a WA license.
