Got all my gear together after taking out some urgent priorities, and finally was heading to the Jetty at 3:30pm, about an hour or so later than I had planned.
Naturally, I ran into some friends (old surf buddies exiting the water after a session in the clean waves) while checking the zone from the parking lot overlooking Half Moon Bay, and had to have a beer and chat with them while I observed the fishing lineup thru binocs and enjoyed the beach scene.
Wind was about 10 to 15, but the angle was OK at straight SW, and the wave action wasn't bad.
Beer quaffed, I headed to the Jetty parking, got into my wetsuit, and got my yak and all my gear wheeled to the water, launching at exactly 5pm.
I paddled out about halfway to the end, out past the green can buoy over in the channel and started flipping a 1/2 oz jighead plastic worm (grease green with metalflake, and anointed with krill scent and anchovy oil) toward the jetty from 60 feet away, and then hopping it down the submerged riprap slope to the trough and then along the bottom and up. Water depth varied between 25 and 40 feet.

The wind and the tide were moving in pretty much the same direction (back in), making for a fishable free drift while retrieving. I had to re-adjust my positioning fairly often, but it wasn't a real bother. I ended up catching two smaller Black Rockfish. I lost my jig to the bottom. My mono leader was also gone...line broke at the Albright knot, leaving only braid. Not wanting to re-tie leader to the braid with a 25-turn Albright knot while out in the harbor entrance, I put away the spin rod and popped the cherry on my virgin level-wind jigging rig.

I paddled out again and drifted in while jigging straight up and down (cheap level-wind reel...I don't cast with these) a metalflake purple worm with a blue UV hootchie skirt on a half OZ jighead. Wasn't getting any takes, looked at my watch and saw it was 6:50pm, and then, suddenly, I developed a charlie horse in my left foot as my left calf started to cramp.
Dang! I had planned to fish for another half hour. Instead, I had to readjust my foot pegs and punch at the knot on the top of my foot while trying to ignore the pain and keep my calf from knotting up. I had to grab my foot and straighten it out, since it was trying to curl wierdly. I finally achieved some neutral positioning that balanced out the opposing cramping, and reeled in.
Then I managed to enjoy the paddle back in, despite having to fight off further cramping.
Other than that, it was a really cool fishing trip!
I'll get a pic of the jetty from the water up later. Not much to look at. No fish pics. The fish didn't fight very hard and weren't photogenic, just a small and med/small blackie.
I'll get an earlier start next time, and try to target Lings more.
