My parents want to come out to the Pac NW and rent a cabin on the water in early August. My dad loves to fish and I'd like to take him out a few times with the yaks.

I've been on Orcas, and also Camano and Whidbey.

Anyone have recommendations for others? How about Saturna or any other Gulf islands? Or Lummi? Mostly want a quiet, pretty spot.

Looking for some good paddling right from the cabin, but also some fun fishing as a secondary goal. Anything going in early August? Salmon?

Thanks!
John

If you can get it, there's a cabin on its own private island at Deception Pass.  The only way to access it is by human powered craft...

never been there myself but i hear its very good

also try craiglist for rentals on lummi island as there are a few out there

there is a great campground at washington park in anacortes

you might do OK off presidents channel in august for salmon

West beach resort is pretty cool. That's where we launch our guided san juan trips from. small cabins right on the water, nice summer camp type feel to the property.

Saturna is nice.  Very pretty and quiet.  Good kayaking.  Current in a few places, depending on tides.

Stayed at Sunset Beach Estate.  (a small collection of cottages a opposed to a resort)  Nice views of the water and a nice beach where you can launch.

I would have to agree with Saturna being great.  I went there in September and the leaves on the ocean floor with the other rock life were all amazing colors.  The food and lodging at Saturna Lodge were unsurpassed.
