Any PORT ORFORD yak anglers out there??????????????

Wondering if anyone has any experience fishing Port Orford? It seems perfect for kayak fishing. No long paddles to get to good water. Protected  cove.
Easy parking.Fantastic bottom fishing. You are immediately in great water without any rough surf launch. Seems like a dream spot to fish and crab. I can't remember anyone ever doing a fishing report about it.

I have scoured that area many times with Google Earth - I know exactly what you're talking about!  ::)

I wish I was in the area because that does look like a very friendly kayak fishing spot. Be sure to post something if you get out there!

Btw, isn't there a MPA that is being implemented for that rocky area just south of P.O.?

One of my first trips was in the cove next to the boat launch that lowers boats by straps. I stayed at CBY's house that weekend and Sunset was booming so we headed out to Port Orford. It was a short paddle to the big rock garden to the south. After an hour or so, the winds started to shift and hit us pretty hard. We paddled north, into the biting wind, until we were protected by the point. We then fished the kelp beds and I got my first rock fish!

I hope to get back there and fish Sunset and PO again.

It seems to me like heading out around the point all the way to the east would be very productive if the winds cooperate. That area looks really rocky and full of structure.

I had a great trip there last August.  Launched off the beach, you can drive right down to it below the Rest Area there.  No fish, though the guy on the jetty had a few.  North wind came up and I could still play around, very scenic, wildlife all over.

I have fished Port Orford twice. Once with a large group from NWKA (the report should be in the NWKA data banks somewhere) then once solo. It is a great spot and I would love to fish it more, but right now I am having a hard time just making it out to sunset which is only 10 minutes away  :'(.
Anyways it is worth checking out if you get the chance. Easy put in, 5 minute paddle to the fish and your limit of blacks in no time.
Enjoy the ride!

Yea, that was a fun trip when Steelheadr came down. Port Orford is way cool and i would like to spend more time there, it's just kinda hard to drive by Sunset most the time...Are you near there Keystone? If so i'll come down there and go out with ya, or if you wanna plan a trip, hit me up with a PM and well hook it up....

Merlin, how are ya, you ready to do some fishin. I'm thinking sunset will be good this weekend??
See ya on the water..

Coosbayyaker- I'm out of the Portland /Vancouver area.
One of my favorites is the Seiku area. Recently moved back to Pdx after living in Seattle for 7 years. I've fished there with pb and yaks. It is awesome if you can put together a few days because it's a good drive to get there. Great bottom fish limits past the Seiku river. Watch those tides!!!!!!
I just got out of back surgery today, so I won't be doing much fishing for at least 6 months. Yea,It sucks, but I want the best recovery possible. Thanks for the invite, maybe at a later date. Have fun guys and gals, hope to get back out there soon. I've been fishing swim baits out of Depoe Bay for the last 6 years with great success. Lots of people have caught on the last few years however. Lets's keep innovating!!!

sucks about your back, i can relate.

I had Lower lumber lamenectomy,  a lipoma removed from the base of my spine and untethering of spinal cord in 95. Not fun at all..

Good luck on a speedy recovery and get as active as you can soon after as possible, youll recover alot faster. See ya on the water some day.
