My wife is teaching in Hood River all day so I'm looking to go fishing. Any suggestions? Company?

salmon, sturgeon, bass, salty...I'm good up to a 3 hour drive each way.

If it's not too windy, good smallmouth fishing 15 minutes east of Hood River. Should be easy trout fishing in the hills above HR as well. Might have a chance at steelhead at the mouth of the Hood.

I'd suggest fishing the CR if there's no wind for smallies. The fish ought to be staging so I'd hit the transition points leading into the backwater sloughs (The Dalles area has a lot to offer in that regard). Good luck and let us know how it went. I would volunteer to go but I'm stuck working all day Saturday. :(

I've never fished above the dams on the Columbia but all the suggestions and the latest dino reports sound interesting. Anyone up for a trip tomorrow? If not, I'll probably hit George Rogers or Cedar Oaks park.

Cedar Oaks ramp will be, and has been  a zoo.  I have been fishing this area every day this week and the ramp has been full by early morning and the river is choked with salmon fishermen.  If thats not what your after you might want to take that into account.

Thanks PP,
I've actually been thinking more about sturgeon lately. Although I've only been out once this year, to MC catching 4 shakers, I am leaning towards George Rogers....still searching for my first keeper! I think I'll bring a bass rod as well.

Don't forget sturgeon is closed to retention (open for C&R of course)....  The bass have been biting well though. I have been having good luck on points with chartruse cranks... Salmon fishing hasn't been half bad either ;)
