How far will these things clamp down?  I need the 3/4" version to pass my Humminbird transducer connector, but the cable is only about 1/8".  The alternative is to route the cable under the front hatch cover as a permanent solution.

It may be better to peel back the hatch gasket at the seam, notch the plastic underneath and press the cable into the notch, then do any sealing with Goop.

I've been running my cable thru the front hatch.  Haven't had any issues during surf launches and landings.  I may be getting an extra ounce or two of water thru but not enough to worry about.

There've been a couple of good posts on our NorCal sister site about moding pass-thrus to accomodated transducer cable connectors.  In essence, they make a cut in any of the pieces which the connector can't pass thru.  It probably reduces their effectiveness at keeping out water unless you're willing to seal it with some goop and make the cable mount semi-permanent.

I used them for my Humminbird cable and it clamped down all the way. I put just a little spot of goop on top as insurance. I really liked how well they worked.  No leakage at all.  doug

It's been a while since I dealt with the one I'm using on my OB, but, I think there is rubber plug that the cable is fed into that the connector grabs and tightens down onto.  No issues on mine yet.

How wide is your transducer connector?  I have the 3/4" fitting and screwed down tight I get to about a 3/8-1/4" opening - still pretty loose on the cable.  I couldn't get the connector through the 1/2" fitting.  It just barely wouldn't fit.  Maybe if I pulled it through backwards it would flex enough to slip through.

I will check when i can. I won't be able to get to the kayak for a few days but i am wondering if my connector was a bit smaller or my cable was thicker. I did have to use a wrench to tighten the last bit on it. I am wondering if an option might be to get a short piece of the 3/8" foam tubing like they use with drip irrigation systems and cut a slit, wrap it around the cable and then cinch it down. I am very sorry if i caused you to drill a hole that isn't working  :-[.   doug

you can cut through one side of the fitting with a small bladed cutter like a small bandsaw or scroll saw, the smaller the cut the better. If it's only barely not fitting pry it carefully in the cut with a screwdriver to get it over the plug. you can heat it up a little to bend it farther. If you had to heat it up to get it over heat it up again close the the gap and glue it with a little super glue or whatever glue you use.

The threaded parts will be a tiny bit smaller because of the cut, but just wrap it with a good ammount of teflon tape to take up the difference. I would still use a little goop where the wire goes through the fitting even with one thats not been modified
See ya on the water..

No worries.  No holes drilled yet.  Still routing under the front hatch cover.  Good idea.

Another good idea.  I'll include the 1/2" fitting on my next Hook1 order.
