Met up with Jammer at Depoe Bay on Sunday and had a great day of fill-the-freezer fun!

Got on the water shortly after 8 and slipped through the hole to some very flat conditions. It was overcast for most of the time we were on the water. I think the sun broke through once around noon time, but quickly slipped away again. We ended up getting into some great fishing in some areas that will remain confidential until after June 19th and yes, the pictures have been cropped to protect the identity of the spots we were fishing. ;D

Jammer hooked into his first ever ling right off the bat. It sure is cool watching someone pull in their first ling. It measured in at about 24". I'll let him add in the rest of his details of the day.

My first fish of the day ended up being a 6 lb. cabezon that felt like pulling up a parachute. I'm not quite sure why it felt the need to clobber my lure because it looked like it had swallowed a beach ball and couldn't have possibly been hungry. I must have just pissed it off. It ended up measuring in at 20".

We moved closer to where some power boaters were fishing and shrugged off the awkward stares while we proceeded to slay rockfish after rockfish. I switched to my light gear for all of this and had a blast! I pulled in a couple of greenling so I finally could get one up on the board. I pulled in a 21.25" black for an upgrade! I noticed a couple of fins break the surface so I had some surface action on light gear and also hooked a ling right on the surface amidst all the blacks. Caught another cabby that looked like it was about to pop which ended up going around 18".

On our way back in we bumped into FishSniffer and his two friends working the north reef. We stopped and said hi before heading back in. It was a pretty beautiful day out for the most part. It was glass in the morning and the wind waves picked up to be around 1.5' around noon. The swell was building throughout the morning, but it never got too bad. I even got a nice burn on my face!  ::)

Thanks Jammer for making the drive out! Dinner for tonight is a slab of cabezon and a summer ale!

AWESOME Day!  And, nice report to boot.

If I'd have been able to get away earlier on Sunday I'd have been somewhere salty too.  Thanks for confirming how badly I was missing out.....  :-\

Way to get after em!  The ocean where I was looked awesome on Sunday.  Made me wish I had brought my yak.  All I managed was a few limits of razors.

If the ocean cooperates it looks like we could be in for an awesome tourney!

Yaknitup, I sure like your reports.  They always seem so glorious!

On my team Sherrie caught her first fish from a yak, a very nice cab.  Chris the Fish got his limit of Lings and rock/cabs and I settled on a ling and two nice blacks with which we made some awesome fish tacos.

HOLY ROCK FISH! Thanks again Yaknitup for showing this fresh water river boy the ropes of rock fishing. I would have to say that pound for pound these coastal rock fish are one of the hardest fighting fish I have caught in a long time. Those extra large pectoral fins sure add a lot to an already aggressive fight. I ended the day with a limit of lings and 6 black rocks. In addition to the keepers, I ended catching 2 more lings, 3 more black rocks, 1 blue rock and 2 other fish I couldn't identify. What a kick ass day! I also had my first ever "double" hook up with a 16" blue rock and a 19" black rock on board together. There's no doubt i'll be joining the fun at the Oregon Rockfish Classic on June 19Th. I'll be signed up tonight. Mahalo Jeff!
