After flip flopping between the Hobie Outback, Pro Angler, and the Native Mariner Propel I ended up buying the aircraft carrier Pro Angler. Since "the plan" is to use it within 5 miles of launch the slower Pro Angler will work OK. Any further distance requirements will be with my 90 hp Whaler. Pick the aircraft carrier up Wednesday and start the process of installing the downrigger, fish finder, real rod holders, battery, bilge pump, GPS, cockpit lights, hardware, etc. The finished yak definitely won't be a light weight, but it'll be a great fish killing platform.

Don't forget the trailer. ;D

BTW: Although it is massive, that big dog can get up and walk! I pedaled one this weekend and it moved surprisingly fast.

Bilge pump, really?  It's a beast, but I don't think it remotely warrants one of these.

I don't know your yak, but I keep one below decks in my T-13.   They're pretty cheap for the hand pump variety.

With the rest of the boating electronics he mentioned, I inferred he meant an electric one.  When he mentioned cockpit lighting along with a sounder, gps, and bilge pump I starting thinking of full-blown boating electronics.

I have a scotty bilge pump, but if I need to use it I am already $!@#'d six ways from Sunday since my 75% of the weight is in the rear and my only hatch is on the bow. Come to think of it, why'd I waste the money on it?

Good point.  Despite having a giant hole in the top of my yak (rod pod lid) the most likely scenario is that the hatch stays closed and I paddle to shore like hell. And that reminds me - I've gotta get a few more of those pool noodles. ;)

If you can still paddle back to shore, you don't "Need" one of those.  They sure are nice to have though.
If you "Need" a bilge, you'll be using it while floating along side your yak.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Lee you must've missed the sale they had during Memorial Day weekend- $1.79 or something like that... I picked up two.
They had one I've never seen before that's like a mesh bag with pellets in it that claims to float up to 250#'s, I think they wanted $8 for it.  Anyone know how much a regular pool noodle can support for comparison?
