That is way cool! such diversity of fish. What a trip!

Some more miscellaneous fish pics.

Pic #1.  We picked up a random Jack on the troll.
Pic #2.  Trigger were present enough to keep things interesting.  The skipper wanted these for ceviche.
Pic #3.  I caught a couple puffers and a bunch of misc fish on the sabiki in the evenings on the hook.
Pic #4.  Trumpetfish are slimy!!!
Pic #5.  Large needlefish caught on a topwater popper.

These Baja pics are killing me!  I haven't been to Baja since 1996 for my Hornymoon, but really want to go back down there again.

In reality, I would love to caravan down to Baja on the Sea of Cortez with a kayak group, and camp near some bay or protected outcropping that has good fishing within a mile off shore.  I dream of early morning launches with the sunrise, hopefully get on a veriety of edibles, and fix'n great food the rest of the day back at camp.  Chill'n and relax'n.

I have this dream adventure in the back of my mind as I construct my kayak trailer.  Ya never know if this trip ever gets put into reality and need to pull the trailer down there.  It really needs to be able to handle the rugged abuse that Mexico can dish out, so I am building extremely sturdy for it's size.  8)

Well, this time of year, the Corumuel Winds (http://math.ucr.edu/ftm/bajaPages/Stories/Coromuel.html) pretty much negate much chance for a "dawn patrol".  As much as we wanted to, the winds just gusted through the nights, and made for a bit of rocking and rolling on the hook.  It wasn't until mid morning that they calmed down, then glassed off through mid-day, before starting up again a little before sunset.

Polepole. Great pics and looks like a fantastic trip. Do you know anything
about the Los Bariellas area? My cousin recently bought some property there and I'd love to fish there.

If you're talking Los Barriles, that's the southern part of the famed East Cape.  Fish ON!!!!!

Troy ... do both!!!  I'm trying to do that this year.   ;)

If anyone needs a Baja kayak fishing fix, Jim Sammons still has some openings on his July 2-7 trip (http://eastcapekayakfishing.com/Trips.shtml).

Fishnut 1,

I fished Los Barriles last summer on that same boat Pole Pole was just on.  There is good fishing close to shore if the fish are in.  Sometimes you have to go pretty far offshore too.  Just depends.  We also caught huge Humboldt Squid.  The best way to fish it for the first time is with a guide.  The guides at Martin Verdugo's are very good and very friendly.  Check it out here: http://www.verdugosbeachresort.com/

This is a great dream don't give up on it... you could easily pull it off if you had the time.. you would need lots of time... when we flew in and out of La Paz they flew us right down the baja peninsula... you could see the pacific and the sea of Cortes... the vast endless terrain of the baja dessert looked looked totally insane... i thought to myself how rad it would be to have a bitchin 4 wheel drive with a sick trailer... you could get lost out there forever.. there were spots on the inside of the baja peninsula along the sea of Cortes that looked like no one had been there in years... I kept thinking there must be good fishing all over this area... and when the hurricanes hit there must be all kinds of mysto secret surf spots...

If you were to do this the main issue is water.. you will need lots of water.. some type of portable desalination unit would be killer... for me a Hobie AI would be a must and so awesome here... you could do some great sailing and fishing and moving around to the islands.. it would be so fun...
