dunno if he's still an active member, but some time back, Three Weight mentioned in a similar discussion that he'd been updating all in home lighting to LED... interesting choice, but not as hazmat intensive at end of life cycle as CFLs. i know we replace about half the interior LED surgical lighting on the MEV variant when they come through for RESET and those get sent to a recycle facility that processes them like a computer part.

talking about coal, Cowlitz County was/is working a port deal with an Aussie company to export coal to China using it's Columbia River access water ways. Some "enviro" groups are having serious heartburn over this, claiming that the mercury and other airborne chemical fallout from it being burned will drift right back onto us. Seems they think that USG should also regulate coal and other combustible exports like it to other countries the same way it's regulated here, and the other country's sovereignty be damned.  Apparently there are also enviro  issues being raised by home town groups with storing the coal ( exported from Wyoming) indoors and again with its transport into the facility..

isn't there an old fatalistic expression about simply living in this day and age being able to kill you just as quickly as anything else?? [ sarcasm]

I hope we all realize the odds of us drowning while kayak fishing far outweighs any risk of harm from mercury or nearly any other enviro-hazard.
