I will be up in Norcal Labor Day week and I"m thinking of bringing my kayak up and heading to the coast for a couple of days. I live down in the bay area and fish the San Mateo coast regularly so I thought I try southern Or since I already have my license. I'm thinking maybe somewhere in the vicinity of Brookings. I'll be watching the WX reports and if it's good I"ll make my way out there.

Any special regs or areas I should be aware of? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Ted

bring yer halibut gear.
Many Calibutts are being taken by those who know how and where.
For Brookings, it is an easy paddle out the mouth of the Chetco and hang an immediate left. Start trolling as soon as you clear the jetty and head South. Once past the Motel, turn around and do it again. They are catching them in 3'-4' of water just ouitside the waveline. I can arrange a place for you to "park" the Yak on the dock for a few days to launch from, no fee.
Secret hole at Harris Beach Just turned up a 40# Pacific Halibut and is just as easy to access.
PM me if you like and I will give you my phone #. I will be around (fishing the derby from a PB) on Sat and Sun., butt I have to work on Fri.

Thanks for the intel boxofrain. I will send you a PM. I've only caught one hali this year and dont usually target them down here. I'll probably head out there during the week when it is less crowded.

gonna be working all week in Gasquet, but I can meet you any evening before 6:30 and we'll set you up with a place on the docks for your Yak if you like.
