Looks like I'm headed south to Hoodsport/Mud Bay/Johns Creek Saturday afternoon- from Seattle - leaving at lunchtime for the evening fish.

Anyone else have weekend plans?

Matt

I want to go, but this doesn't look so good for the cause:

I'm with Lee on this one - the wind might be strong enough to mess things up.  Hope you do well anyway.

As for mud bay... have you engineered a way to launch from that place?

I may go tomorrow. I do have some other stuff to do and the weather is iffy. Will make a decision late tonight.

As to Mud Bay it's a real high tide fishery. I fished it once w/ cobrakak last year.  During the higher water it's an easy place to fish. Consult tides before getting out there. The name is very apt. Park on the side of the road and slide the yaks through the grass. Just watch out for the dropoffs from the grass into the water. There's a couple of spots that drop into deep holes. Fishing is great when the fish are in.

Yesterday I helped a friend move down to Woodland (of course I stopped at the Lamiglas factory outlet store and bought another 3 rods that I don't need) and instead of fighting the afternoon commute rush hour in Olympia/Tacoma/Seattle I decided to go around Hood Canal and take the ferry across from Kingston to Edmonds. Stopped at all the usual chum holes on the way to see what was happening. Mud Bay had a good crowd but not a lot going on. There were only 2 fishermen at Hoodsport and neither had a fish. There were 2 small schools of chum milling around but weren't interested in what the fishermen were throwing at them. Didn't see any activity around Potlatch State Park. Only a couple of tribal gill nets between Potlatch & the Hoodsport hatchery. At the hatchery there were a half dozen gill nets being worked on the north side. They were getting a few fish but not enough to sink any of their cork floats. I was there at 4 pm and they were packing it in for the day. Last stop was at Eagle Creek and nothing was going up it. May be a week early yet but if we get a few days rain it should get busy on the chum front.

I will hit Oakland Bay (John's Creek estuary) tomorow. I plan to be there around 8-8:30. Lee, text me if you want to join me.
