I'm sure he's crossed the bar in the t-13. It's actually easier in a kayak than a big boat like a PB. Pretty standard for kayakers really.

Very true..  I have crossed Tillamook/Nehalem and Nestucca bay bar several times.  You just have to make sure to time the tides.  Miss time the tide and you can have some serious current and standing waves to deal with.

I think its much safer to go though the surf, even bigger surf.  No boat traffic, no current and if you get knocked off you can just stand up and hit it again.  There is some great fishing along the jetties of most coastal bays but the strong tidal currents and swells against the jetty rocks makes it more hairy then fishing in the ocean proper.  However, this time of year its the only consistent saltwater game in town

I prefer to go around the bar and access B2 from the south.   ;D
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

we do our BCU certifications there at the mouth of the Columbia inside & outside. It can be super nasty, but not always. Sometimes we'll launch off the beach N of the N Jetty and paddle back in across the bar to waikiki beach. There's a cool cave, and a nice secret beach back in a slot under the CG station there.

I swam across it next to my kayak once as well ;) I swam so much that day it actually cured me of Jaws-itus.
