3 dozen for two pots. First pot came up super heavy then at the top came up light. Found a dozen cartridges...empty shrimp shells. Almost got goal #2 of an octopus taken care of.

sucks that Tako is raiding your pots, but i'm very glad to see that you have had a good bit of success. reads like you need a small bit of tweaking to your gear and maybe some stronger velcro adhesive, and lots less wind, and you will be swimming in shrimp...

what a way to start your yak fishing adventures......

Put some treble hooks inside the pot secured with line...If regs are the same here in WA...It'll be a keeper

Tako's suck.  They need to go get their own traps.  Nice looking bunch of shrimp though.  Very nice!

Sweet, k-84! Nice to see the evolution of your quest, and the success!

Have you ever dealt with a good size octopus? I netted one for a friend a few years ago (it had grabbed his bottomfish jig). What a PITA to get out of the net! Still, it was pretty tasty and provided a lot of bait.

I can't wait to do battle with a big Octopus!  I am going to take islandsons advice and see if I can do that here.  I am definitely dropping my lair traps now! I love eating them and using them for bait! Dual Purpose!!!!

So a video is in the works.  Not very good but you'll get the idea.

But for now here are some pics of today!  Epic day!  Beautiful! I even caught a cod and a rockfish on a rod.  the cod went back into the shrimp pots!

Ok.  So here's video I put together over a cup of morning coffee lamenting the 180 deg swap in marine forecast.  My pots are still in the water since the forecast called for W 10mph, seas 1ft.  Wake up to 25mph gusting to 40mph.  Do we really pay people to forecast the weather?? Lol.  They are amazingly accurate but I guess ya never know.  Good thing I didn't go camping.  I wouldn't be back for a few days it looks like,

I really have more respect for people like that survivorman dude not so much because of his survival stuff but that he does that AND films himself.  What a pain but its worth it if you get the good shots.  I didn't really but call it a work in progress. Not going to have a show or anything in the near future but you should get an idea of what i went through.  I have a few more clips and maybe when i have time I will put it all together in a how to thread.

But I am not going to waste more bandwith uploading more of poor edited stuff until i figure this out.  Looked better on my computer.  Hmm...

Before I forget, thanks for everyone's help!  Thanks to you folks, what just seemed like a really stupid and BAD idea was failry easily accomplished!

TAKO, you $%#$@% shrimp thief...YOU ARE NEXT!

Interesting progression.  Catch shrimp in pot to lure Octopus, then use Octpus to accomplish goal #3 of catchhing a decent halibut.  Gotta love it.

Here's the link to the video.  If you click on my channel there is a slightly longer but not much better version.  Didn't cut as much out or speed things as much.

I noticed today that at least on one of the days I had my Navionics app for my iphone on while paddling which tracked what looks like a half a days worth of paddling.  So for kicks and grins here it is in case anyone is interested in what kind of depths I was in. Sonar seemed to be reading a touch deeper but its hard to say with the low precision of this app.

Also I posted a little cleaner version of the video.  Pretty much the same.  Smoother initial and ending pictures.  Cut some of the repettitive stuff out.  Cut out the audio.
