Homemade knife jigs

Here's a question I've come up with after reviewing various online tutorials...

After drilling and cutting the blade off, why does everyone attach the hook to the end that used to have the blade attached? The butt end is typically slightly heavier than the former blade end. Doesn't it make more sense to attach the hooks to the heavier end?

the Heavier end will hit the bottom first, from my own research the reason for the assist hook is to keep the hook away from the bottom and getting snagged. Saving money so you don't have to buy another jig.

Jay ... it depends on how you're working the jig.  There are many styles of jigs and jigging with the weight being anywhere from the front to the back.  But rear weighted is more common, and sometimes even weighted, especially for the type of bottom jigging we do here.

I don't think the question is so much where do you attach the hooks, rather it might be, "which end do you attach the line to?".

Thanks guys. I guess the first answer is try it both ways and see what the differences are locally. My initial load of Goodwill knives turned out to be on the lighter side. Although I haven't even started on them, my guess is that they won't be much over 2 ounces, if that much. Not enough to get down to mommy and daddy ling depth, but the time and energy will be well spent learning the processes involved.
