I wanted to come up with a way to mount my monitor in way that I wouldn't have to keep a FF base permanently mounted on the top side of my kayak. I tied two bungee through the mounting screw holes in the base of my FF, then attached two "bungee buttons" on the center "rib" near my foot pedals. This method also allowed me to mount it without having to make any large holes in the kayak. After I am done with the FF I store it below in a dry bag. It works really well with my new Malibu extreme.

Clever.  Inexpensive.  Might want to leash the FF in case you go over.  Looks like you are routing your power and transducer cable under the front hatch.  I'm thinking the same as a permanent alternative to drilling a monster hole for the connector, then filling it some how for a tiny cable.

You were willing to drill holes for the rod holder, but not the FF?   :-)

That's one heck of a 1st post H.G.!  Thanks for sharing this trick.  I like how quick and easy that is.  You'll probably find a dozen other uses for those two buttons when the FF isn't in also.

Welcome!

Yeah I don't mind putting holes in the yak, but I didn't want to have to keep the base out in the weather all the time. The cables run under the hatch really well in the Malibu because it has a thick rubber gasket between the lid that keep it "semi-watertight". The FF is pretty stable there it didn't come off at all. I will take your advice on the leash. I would hate to drop that off the side. :D

Next Adventure in Portland sells them though I'm not sure how local that is for you.

I like the fact that it is dynamic. If you knock in to it with your rod butt or any number of things the whole unit will give rather than having to absorb all of the impact and potentially break the unit.

I like this idea too.  Another simple and effective means to get the job done, and it looks good.
Thanks for sharing,
Scott

Not buttons but lash hooks, http://www.seattlefabrics.com/misc_hardware.html

Considering the drive from Federal Way to north Seattle it will be cheaper to order online from Hook1.

I always end up finding odd little doo-dads like that at the ACE Hardware thats part of the WILCO farm store in my area.  The isle with all the nuts/bolts etc. etc. in little bins and trays usually has stuff like this.  Not sure if they have these but it would be the first place I would look.
