I'm thinking about buying a new boat soon but want to figure out what to do with it before I make the plunge.  I don't have a garage and my existing storage shed would be too small for a kayak if it weren't already filled with crap.

I store my old boat adjacent to a sort of privacy fence, which is where I think the new boat would also live.  I've come up with two options at this point.  Depending on the length of the boat, I could probably just attach a pair of kayak wall cradles to the privacy fence.

Alternatively, I could build a sort of dog house for the kayak, which would be a quite a bit more work, especially given that we're in the wet season and I don't have an indoor workplace.

Option A would be more exposed but also a lot easier to pull off.  The area is reasonable shady so I don't think UV damage would be a huge concern.  However, is getting a light colored kayak cover a good option to protect the boat from the environment?  Also, is there any reason that one color over another (like white vs red) would be less susceptible to UV damage or weather better for other reasons?

Thanks for your advice.

I plan on storing my AI outside once I've finished working on it in the garage. My spot will be adjacent my driveway resting on a stack of lumber, covered with a tarp. I tarp it because I get alot of needles from Douglas firs near my property. The kayak will be on it's gunnel.

Protect it from the UV with a tarp or something.  Also a cable lock!

Build a frame or cradle out of stout pvc pipe and tarp the thing to cut down on UV damage maybe?
