Took my daughter to Estacada Lake this morning.  Used to be called River Mill Reservoir.  I've reported on this lake before but its worth repeating because its a great alternative to Hagg Lake.  A half day is all you need.  The high canyon walls, deep green color and thick forest makes you feel a lot further away than just 35 minutes from Lake Oswego.  Access is easy at the newer boat ramp in Milo McIver state park.  And you can catch all the planter 'bows you like, with an occasional holdover to be had.  The gold kastmaster was the ticket today and of course I only had one.  So my daughter caught six with it while I settled for one on a silver spoon.  Take the kids and you won't be disappointed.

I've taken Owen there a couple times and have had mixed results, but we seem to end up going mid-day.  I'll have to try an early morning trip next time.
