Hate to say it but you also have to be smart, not just safe, poor guy should have had better gear and a buddy if you go in less than ideal conditions.

Sounds like he was dressed for the weather and checked the weather reports prior to heading out. Still not sure what the official cause of death was... Very sad story, but I can certainly think of worse ways to go...

I guess what I pulled from the thread was to fish with a buddy if at all possible. That is where forums like this one really help by organizing outings!

I was fishing on a small stream in a canyon many years ago and a large bolder fell, pinning me to the ground. If it wasn't for my dad being with me, I'm not sure how it would have turned out. It took both of us to roll the bolder off.

Fish with a buddy, the life you save could be your own...
