I recently purchased the outback with turbo fins, there is an adjustment on them to adjust the amount of "flex or deviation" that they make when you peddle them. I currently have my set to the loosest setting. Does anyone have or done any research on what setting is the best. I think I read that if you tighten up the screws it will give you a faster pace through the water. What experience do other "yakers" have regarding this. Under the current setting it seems I can maintain a ground speed of 2-3 mph very easy. Please chime in on what others have their turbos set at..Thanks...

I have my turbo fins tightened as tight as my fingers can turn the little brass wheel on the screw threads. I have understood that less flexibility in the fin blades translates to more resistance in the water, but correspondingly greater speed.

Do a search on the Hobie forum for a "Roadrunner".  He has done some extensive testing on the Mirage drive system and how to tune them.

Top end speed won't change whether it's tight or sloppy.

-) Tightened all the way up will give maximum resistance and will get you up to speed real quick, but will wear your legs out quicker too.  Great for a hard workout if you are looking for one.

-) Sloppy will give less pedal resistance for all day pedal comfort, yet once you get it up to speed you can maintain it alot longer.

Very interesting. I don't generally need to hit top speed fast but I do generally spend 8 hours paddling at a time. Maybe relaxing the flippers on the Mirage Drive may make my day a bit easier. I will have to back it down a bit and see how I like it. I have to admit that I like it now just fine with them set tightly.

Check your email.  I sent you Roadrunner's mirage documents, plus some mirage docs from Hobie.
