We're camping near Florence this weekend.  My cousin, son and I are all experienced at kayak rockfishing along other parts of the coast. Weather looks borderline, but I'm watching it.  Based on Google Earth imagery, it looks like we will need to drive quite a ways south to get to any rocks.  There are a couple areas named "shell island" and "baltimore rock" that look interesting.  I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions about rockfishing "near" florence - launch sites, etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice.  I'm in Humboldt County CA and always willing to provide advice or show someone around our area.

Hey Adam!  What are you doing here?

Someone do me a favor and show a little love to Adam.

Baltimore Rock ... launch at Sunset Bay State Park.  Roy (coosbayyaker) may be able to help you out.

Or goldendog (iives in Florence) can give you a few pointers to the area.

Or ... dare I say that you and PNW can discuss the finer points of Marine Reserves?   >:D >:D

All over it...

Come to Sunset Bay and i'll take you fishing to all those places and more.
Since your experienced we can go to Simpson Reef. All depending on the conditions of course with a Troll for Salmon for back up? your day licenses will include tags so not more expense that way at least.

Conditions look ok early to noonish...wind will come up, you can count on that. PM me with your intentions and well rip some lips!

See ya on the water..

Keep me posted on what you guys decide. I would like to join you. I would probably prefer going for salmon or maybe a small mouth bass or two on the Umpqua though. CBY is right- the surf conditions look really erradic and windy.

If getting salty is meant to be- There are few rockfish to be had out of Florence, but definately worth the drive down to Sunset (Charleston). I'd love to hit it on a good day to make it to Simpson Reef if the report starts showing something better. Actually the conditions are reporting a little better up north- Pacific City or Depot Bay.
