Don't ask me how i DON'T know....

I have no idea what this part is for. Found it wedged in a styrofoam piece. I recently bought new appliances but want to make sure it's nothing like "uh, ur kayak will explode if u don't install that pin." or anything like that.

Anyone recognize it as a hobie part or recognize it?

That looks like a retaining pin for a kayak cart.  Pull the pin when you want to take the wheels off the frame of the cart.  That sort of thing.

Where did you find it?!?! I've been missing that since I left it on the beach at PC 4 years ago.  Had to use the hook on a 6oz jig to hold the wheel on to get back to my car.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

glad I could help! Make sure you be careful with those things.  They are very easy to lose.  For example:

The Wheelez stock pins kept popping off on me, so I replaced them with stainless clips from Ace Hardware.  Buy 4 of them and carry a couple of spares.  You may never need them, but ...

On the Wheel-eez pins, make sure you roll the ring towards the short side of the top of the pin (in your picture the long side is facing up)

I currently have two swivels attaching my rudder cables on the Tarpon   ;D
