I took a buddy from out of town fishing yesterday.  It was his first time out in a kayak and the first time fishing in 20+ years.  I figured I'd get some guide practice. ::)

He had a bit of difficulty casting and paddling at the same time (don't we all?) and I ended up towing him for most of the day. It actually was not that much of a problem and he is no lil fella. (6'7"retired NBA player). What was even more surprising is that I did it with the standard Hobie fins as my turbo shaft's got bent in a huli a month or so ago (but that's another story ::) )

The last time I saw my standard fins was when I tossed them in disgust after my first outing in my BigA. That was 5 years ago and I hadn't given them much thought since. Well, necessity necessitates and out came the old shafts and fins (I also don't know how to throw anything away either) and danged if they didn't work very well.

Again, towing a big guy in a Cobra Navigator around the lake was pretty effortless. They acted like a low gear. Come to think of it, that's what I thought of them initially and what I found so disappointing. Guess having a granny gear can have it's advantages.

They're also a couple of inches shorter than the turbo fins and go that much shallower. Not quite as useless as I first thought.
